SAMAC trains students on every family of orchestral and traditional instrument, from first lessons through ABRSM, Trinity College and MUSON examinations, up to our own Diploma in Music.
Saxophone Music Academy, known as SAMAC, was founded in 2007 in a single room by Imọlẹayọ Balogun, teaching saxophone technique, jazz improvisation, and preparing candidates for the theory and practical examinations of ABRSM, Trinity College of Music and MUSON.
The school grew into a full academy registered with Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission. In 2009, SAMAC moved into its own centre at Kareem Laka Street, Egbeda Akowonjo, to expand its teaching of effective music education.
Today our teaching spans strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, piano and local instruments, alongside harmony, composition, arranging and African music studies — taught by seasoned educators who mentor students throughout their musical journey.

Payment covers 12 consecutive weeks and must be renewed to continue. You may enrol at any date and begin once payment is confirmed.
Students major on one instrument, take a second as a minor, and choose classical or contemporary/jazz study. First semester runs January–May, second July–November. SAMAC assists Diploma graduates with Direct Entry admission into a B.A. Music program.
All fees are paid directly into the Academy's bank account — cash is not accepted. Please bring proof of payment to the Registrar's office.
Imọlẹayọ Balogun is a Lagos-based international jazz saxophonist, educationist and researcher who has headlined jazz festivals in the United States, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria, performing alongside notable jazz artists across the globe.
He studied contemporary music at Peter King College of Music in Badagry, attended the MUSON Diploma School for classical music, and earned his B.A. and M.A. in Music at the University of Lagos, where he is currently a Ph.D candidate. He holds Grade 8 certifications in Music Theory, Saxophone Practical and Practical Musicianship from MUSON, Trinity College of Music and ABRSM.
Since 2010 he has taught Saxophone major/minor and Clarinet minor at the MUSON Diploma Department, where he directs the school band. He is also Principal at Peter King College of Music, teaching saxophone technique from Grade 1 to 6 and leading the Music Workshop class spanning jazz, highlife, salsa, reggae, traditional music and choir.
At SAMAC, he serves as Director of Studies, teaching Music Theory, Western Harmony, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Jazz Studies/Improvisation, Band Culture and Research. His EP is streaming on all platforms, and he is currently writing a saxophone method book titled Saxophone Artistry.
